"When I was young, I drew constantly. I never
questioned why I loved to create, I just did it. I don't remember when I
started. My artistic abilities were well developed at an early age. I
can remember being asked, " Do you want to be an artist when you grow up?"
This bothered me. I felt I was an artist even at that age. What does it
take to be an artist? To me it means someone who creates, without
restrictions or motive, and therefore a work of art is created without motive and
restriction. There are times when this definition would disqualify me as
an artist, but I think art is whatever anyone wants it to be. Am I an
artist? I think so. I will never ask a child if they want to be an artist. Instead if i see
a child creating an art piece, I will tell them 'Wow! You are quite an artist.'
"Aside from all that I did study art in school,
probably the only subject I studied. While in school I had a great
disdain for commercial art and computers; sort of a fear of the unknown. Now I
am a professional graphic artist and realize that computers are a useful tool
even for the most traditional artists. Anyway, in my drawing I strive for expression.
If a subject in a drawing is feeling "pain" then every gesture, and line of
that subject must also say "pain" or joy or whatever it is I am trying
to show. Subtle symbolism used to play a larger roll in my works but
lately I have been trying more straightforward representations relying more on
color and composition than subject matter. I paint/draw in all mediums including watercolor, acrylic, ink, oil, and sculpture, as well as various computer graphics programs.
"Born Nov. 1, 1968. I am married and have a
seven
year old daughter who also loves to draw and paint. I earned a B.A. in
Applied Design and Visual Arts from the University of Houston at Clear
Lake."
